DHMA 4.0 – Top Roll Balancing of the Mill

Learn more about DHMA 4.0

The DHMA is our main success case, as it is the first automatic hydraulic system developed and installed in more than 60 sugar and ethanol mills. Its advantages have been proven since its first version, and today there are also DHMA 1 and DHMA 2 versions, all aimed at continuously improving system performance. We believe that what is good can always be made even better.

The DHMA system is designed to automatically control the leveling and the force that the upper rollers exert on the cane blanket.

Now, the best part is that the system has a new version: DHMA 4.0.

What if you could control the hydraulic system remotely, allowing real-time monitoring, performance analysis, predictive maintenance, and adjustment of the best operating parameters?

With DHMA 4.0, we have brought a complete solution for the hydraulic floating control system of mills.

COMPONENTS:

  • Hydraulic Drive Unit: Responsible for converting electrical energy from the grid into hydraulic energy. The rotational movement and torque of the electric motor, through a displacement pump, are transformed into volumetric flow and pressure.
  • Hydraulic Blocks (12 blocks for 6 mills): Responsible for the automatic control of the upper roller leveling through electronic monitoring of pressure and height variations of the hydraulic mill headstocks. These blocks also have a manual adjustment option via needle valves incorporated into the block for system safety.
  • Control Panel: Receives measurements from the block sensors, compares them with pre-set pressure and height settings via the supervisory system, and commands the necessary adjustments to keep the upper mill roller leveled within a tolerance range (as indicated by the mill consultant) and working at the pressure specified by the mill’s design.
  • Hydraulic Interconnection: Links all components and allows the necessary oil flow for the hydraulic operation of the upper mill headstock. It consists of seamless drawn tubes according to DIN 2391 standards, compression fittings per DIN 2353 / ISO 8434, and high-pressure hydraulic hoses compliant with SAE 100R12 standards.

BENEFITS:

✔ Optimizes extraction pressures, meaning that even with variations in feed, cane type, milling speed, etc., the system keeps the upper roller leveled and with a nearly constant force (PHE). This allows for improved extractions within the mechanical limits of the mills.
✔ Increases the lifespan of mechanical, hydraulic, and milling drive components.
✔ Reduces energy consumption.
✔ Lowers maintenance costs.
✔ Decreases lubricant consumption.
✔ The DHMA 4.0 monitoring technology allows for predicting possible equipment failures before they occur, enabling maintenance management and preventing unexpected corrective stoppages.
✔ All systems comply with NR-13 standards.
✔ The control system is designed to integrate with other mill control systems, allowing the same operator full control of the hydraulic system.
✔ Automatic operation reduces exposure to high-risk areas in systems with the highest pressures in the mill.
